Your video stays yours.
The short version
- Your videos never leave your device. All the AI runs inside your browser.
- We only keep your email if you join the waitlist and tick the consent box.
- Votes, the clips counter and error reports are anonymous.
- We don’t store IP addresses, we don’t set cookies and we don’t track you. We only count visits, anonymously.
- Ads may come later. When they do, we’ll ask about ad cookies first where the law requires it.
Who we are
Offcut is a free, open-source video clipper run by Suvraneel Paul, based in India. In this policy, “we” means the person running Offcut. You can reach us at psuvraneel@gmail.com.
Your videos
When you use Offcut, your browser opens the video straight from your disk. Transcribing, picking clips, reframing, captioning and exporting all happen on your device. No part of your video, audio, transcript or clips is ever sent to us, and we have no way to see it.
To do that work, your browser downloads the AI models the first time you use them, from Hugging Face’s public servers (huggingface.co). Like any download, Hugging Face sees the request, including your IP address, under its own privacy policy. The models are then kept in your browser so later visits don’t need to download them again.
What we store, and why
Our small server stores only the following, in a database hosted by Cloudflare:
| What | Details | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Waitlist email | Your email address, the time you gave consent, and a short tag saying where you signed up (for example “instagram”). Stored only if you tick the consent box. Used to send you one email when Offcut is ready. | Until you ask us to remove it, or shortly after launch once that email is sent. |
| Feature votes | Which feature was voted for, the time, and a random ID your browser made up (see “On your device” below). It isn’t linked to your name, email or IP address. | Until you take the vote back, or the feature is removed from the roadmap. |
| Clips counter | Two running totals for the whole site: how many clips have been exported and how many minutes of video were processed. Nothing about who made them. | As long as Offcut runs. |
| Error reports | Only if you choose to send one: which step failed, the error’s name and message, and optionally the app version, browser, operating system and whether WebGPU was available. | Deleted automatically after 90 days. |
| Feedback | If you send feedback: your message, its category, and a contact email only if you choose to add one. | Until it has been dealt with, or you ask us to delete it. |
What we never store: IP addresses, browser “user agent” strings, cookies, or any fingerprint. Our server never sends email by itself and never sells or shares your data.
On your device
Offcut sets no cookies. To make voting work without an account, your browser keeps a few small items in its local storage: a random ID (sent only when you vote, so you can’t vote twice), plus the list of features you voted for and the time of your last vote (both never sent). Clearing your browser’s site data deletes both.
Counting visits
To know roughly how many people visit, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, doesn’t use local storage and doesn’t fingerprint your browser. We only see totals, such as page views, which pages are popular, the country and the browser type, never anything that identifies you. See how Cloudflare Web Analytics works.
Cloudflare and Turnstile
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver any website, the host has to see your IP address; Cloudflare handles that under its privacy policy.
Forms and votes are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly alternative to CAPTCHAs. It looks at signals from your browser to tell people from bots. When you submit, our server passes the Turnstile result and your IP address to Cloudflare once to check it, and then forgets the IP address: it is never written to our database. Cloudflare says it doesn’t use Turnstile data for advertising. See the Turnstile privacy addendum.
Ads, later
There are no ads yet. Later, we plan to show display ads from Google AdSense on the processing screen, and possibly an optional “watch an ad to unlock an extra” offer. Ads never get access to your videos.
Google and its partners use cookies and similar technology to show and measure ads. Before ads go live, we will update this policy, add a consent banner where the law requires it (including a certified consent tool for visitors from the EU, UK and Switzerland), and let you refuse personalised ads. You can read how Google uses data on partner sites.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (and similar laws elsewhere), you can:
- Ask what we hold about you and how it’s used.
- Correct anything that’s wrong, or have it deleted.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it. For the waitlist, email us and we’ll remove your address.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or can’t act yourself.
- Complain. Contact us first at psuvraneel@gmail.com and we’ll reply within 30–60 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Because votes and error reports are anonymous, we usually can’t tell which ones are yours. Clearing your browser’s site data is the simplest way to cut the link between you and your votes.
Children
Joining the waitlist is for people aged 18 or over. If you’re younger, please ask a parent or guardian to sign up instead. If we learn that a child’s email has been added, we’ll delete it.
Where your data lives
Cloudflare may store and process data on servers outside India. We only keep the small amount listed above, and access to the database is limited to the person running Offcut.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email, we’ll tell waitlist members before it takes effect.
